Job Title:                             Cosmetology Instructor

Reports to:                         Campus Principal/CTE Director

Dept/School:                     CEC

Wage/Hour Status:         Exempt

Contract:                             187 days

Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society, and prepare students for the Texas Cosmetology Exam.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:               

Texas Cosmetology Instructors License

Valid Texas teaching certificate in Career and Technology


Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of Cosmetology skills including hair, skin and nail technology
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction of CTE Cosmetology Instructor
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Ability to supervise field experiences for students

Ability to supervise students who are working with community clients
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of Laws and Regulations for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation

Experience:
At least three years of experience working as a Cosmetologist

 

Major Responsibilities:

Instructional Strategies:

Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of current TEKS and show written evidence of preparation as required.

Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirement s of The Texas Department of License and Regulations.

Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, Texas Department of License and Regulation and administrative regulations.
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the needs of students assigned.
Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

Work with clients in the Cosmetology lab.
Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

 

 

Student Growth and Development:

Plan and conduct leadership, citizenship, cooperative, career development, and competitive activities for students at local, regional and state level.

Help students learn employability skills.
Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
Be a positive role model for students.

Support mission of school district.

Classroom Management and Organization:
Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

Maintain sanitary work environment according to The Texas Department of Rules and Regulations.
Accompany and supervise students at all off-campus activities including contests, workshops, and field trips associated with the Cosmetology program.
Oversee process of maintaining facilities and equipment including the Cosmetology lab, Cosmetology classroom, and any other facilities that encompass Cosmetology support.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
Prepare monthly hourly reports for The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Monitor student attendance.

Ordering supplies and understanding a budget.

 

Communication:
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, counselors, principals, and teachers.
Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development:
Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

Maintain license through continuing education as required by the state.

Other:

Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. 

Occasional district and regional travel, occasional statewide travel, prolonged and irregular hours. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
