Job Title:                     Healthy Outcomes through Prevention and Early Support (HOPES) Teacher

Reports to:                  PAT Supervisor/Director Curriculum & Instruction          

Dept./School:              Campus-based

Wage/Hour Status:      Exempt

Pay Grade:                  Teacher Salary Schedule/187 Days

Primary Purpose:

Implement the Parents as Teachers model, emphasizing parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being in their work with families. 

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, social work, health, psychology or a related field

Valid Texas Elementary teaching certificate

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Strong organizational and record-keeping skills

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Must be able to multi task

Ability to work independently and use sound judgment

Ability to establish rapport with families and empower them by building on their strengths

 

Experience:

Five years’ experience working with families and young children

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  1. Engage in recruitment activities.
  2. Complete an initial and annual family-centered assessment with each family.
  3. Provide personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being (including planning, delivering and documenting the visit)
  4. Use the PAT Foundational curriculum to share research-based information with families
  5. Provide group connections to give families an opportunity to build social connections with each other, engage in parent-child interaction activities, and increase their knowledge of ways to support children’s development.
  6. Complete at least an initial and annual developmental screening and health review for each enrolled child.
  7. Connect families to resources that help them reach their goals and address their needs.
  8. Help parents and children transition to other services as needed, to preschool, or to kindergarten
  9. Maintain and submit in a timely way all required family and program documentation
  10. Participate in at least 2 hours of reflective supervision monthly
  11. Participate in at least 2 hours of staff meetings monthly
  12. Participate in home visits and program related activities that may occur outside of regular school operation hours.
  13. Obtain competency-based professional development and renew parent-educator certification annually.
  14. Participate in continuous quality improvement
  15. Regular Attendance

 

 

Equipment Used:

 

Personal computer, typewriter, printer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.

 

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress. Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer.  In-district and some out-of-district travel required.
