Job Title: Sign Language Interpreter
Reports to: Coordinator of the RDSPD

Primary Purpose:
Provide interpreting services for Deaf or Hard of Hearing parents or WFISD staff for meetings or school events.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid certification as a certified member of or certified by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or the Texas Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI), Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS).
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Must be 18 years of age
Ability to interpret in a variety of settings
Knowledge of interpreter role and the Interpreter Code of Ethics
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to work with Deaf or Hard of Hearing adults
Ability to read and interpret documents
Ability to speak effectively to groups
Ability to interpret/transliterate according to a adult’s chosen modality
Experience:
Some experience as a community interpreter/provider
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Interpret for school-related programs and meetings, conferences, staff development, and other situations.
- Attend and interpret Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.

Repetitive hand motion. Maintain emotional control under stress.
